FAMILY DEVELOPMENT

Services offered by NEED, Inc. to help in family development are concentrated on eliminating poverty and making families self-sufficient.
This is accomplished by helping adult family members become more employable. NEED helps these employable adults acquire and develop the basic skills necessary to find and keep a secure job. This includes education, training, job search, job preparation, and job placement. Beyond that, NEED staff helps clients learn to think for themselves, handle their financial matters more intelligently, maintain a positive attitude, and develop their capacities for creating their own opportunities.
This process takes time and there are often costs involved. NEED can provide a variety of supportive services when necessary, including child care, transportation, and better housing to encourage clients to progress toward self-sufficiency.
Many of these services are provided directly from NEED, while others may be coordinated through NEED with other community organizations. Overall, our efforts are designed to promote:
-
Coordination of resources in support of family self-sufficiency
-
Workshops on family development related subjects, including AIDS, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, homelessness, domestic violence and personal finance
-
Citizen participation through community organizations to upgrade and improve their communities
To be eligible for the assistance, a family must meet the income guidelines set by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The income of all members of the family unit must be included in determining the income of the family. Proof of income eligibility is required.
